About me
Anna Kinnaird Folkman MA, Dip.Psych, MBACP
I have been working in private practice for over 10 years and have extensive experience with a wide range of issues that cause problems in daily life. Clients typically come to see me to explore these problems and to develop strategies for moving forward and enjoying life again. I offer both long term psychotherapy and shorter term counselling and EMDR.
Alongside my general practice, I have special interests in postnatal depression, counselling for skin conditions, and family estrangement. I work with clients to explore their internal worlds and to understand the toxic impact of their negative beliefs, unresolved emotional or traumatic experiences, long held grudges, or patterns of relating in the world and how this may be impacting their emotional and physical health. My research in postnatal depression has focussed on the impact of prior life experiences on the onset of postnatal distress and the potential for unresolved issues to surface at this time. I see the positive impact of working with PND from a more holistic therapeutic perspective than perhaps the medical profession takes, one which seeks to open up these feelings as opposed to shutting them down.
Prior to entering private practice, I worked as a counsellor at both the Kingston Women’s Centre and the Wimbledon Guild.
